Ric Romero

Ric is a native Californian. He was born in Downtown Los Angeles and grew up in the San Fernando Valley.

Ric began his career at KNTV in San Jose as an entry-level studio cameraman. Within a few months he was in charge of all of the production at the station, and his duties included producing and directing live programming, creating new shows, and making over 500 commercials. His work won several awards, including a Clio, an Emmy, and a National Pat Weaver Broadcast Journalism award.

Ric's next stop was in front of the camera as a host of the PM Magazine show at KUTV in Salt Lake City. That job had him covering everything from entertainment to adventure stories. Ric went grizzly bear hunting in Alaska, ice climbing in Wyoming, hot air ballooning over the Rockies, and yachting in Greece.

He then went to work at KPNX in Phoenix, Arizona as a consumer and investigative reporter. Besides winning Emmy awards there, one of his series of investigative reports was instrumental in changing state law.

During his tenure at ABC7, Ric has served as the Orange County Bureau Chief, weekend sports anchor, and Sunday morning news anchor. He has covered such major stories as Desert Storm, the L.A riots, the Northridge earthquake, the Oklahoma City bombing, and the Academy Awards. Ric was the only reporter who was part of the infamous O.J. Simpson slow-speed chase, reporting live from the news van while following the white Bronco.

Ric's consumer reports shows viewers the latest Web sites and hi-tech gadgets, help with getting the most for their money. He also investigates consumer fraud and shows our viewers how to protect themselves from scams. His ABC7 On Your Side reports focus on how to help yourself in tough economic times.
