3 of 19: ABC's 'Castle,' starring Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic, returns for season 4 on Sept. 19, 2011 and airs on Mondays from 10 to 11 p.m.

In the Season 2 finale, hired assassin Hal Lockwood, who is connected to the murder of Kate Beckett's mom, escapes from custody during his arraignment. It is discovered that Capt. Montgomery is the third renegade cop and that he altered old arrest reports in the records room years ago. Lockwood shows up at Montgomery's home with a plan to kill Beckett. Montgomery calls Beckett and tells her to meet him at a helicopter hanger in New Jersey, which is exactly the plan Lockwood had laid out for him. But it turns out he didn't call her out there to have her killed, he brought her to the hanger to lure in the killers and protect her. He explains to Beckett what happened and says he knows that her mom died because of actions he helped set in motion. Montgomery then has Castle take Beckett away once Lockwood and the other killers arrive. A gunfight ensues, and Lockwood and Capt. Montgomery are killed. Beckett, Castle, Esposito and Ryan decide to keep the information about the captain a secret. At his funeral, Beckett is speaking about his fine character when she is shot. Castle holds her in his arms and saysm 'Don't leave me, Kate. I love you.' Beckett closes her eyes and it fades to black. ( Photo / ABC)
