EDINBURG, Texas (KABC) -- Three deer hunters are suspected of wounding two middle school students near Edinburg, Texas.
Investigators have questioned the hunters, but they're still trying to determine whether the shooting on Monday was accidental, reckless or intentional.
Two Harwell Middle School students, ages 13 and 14, were trying out for the basketball team when they were hit by the gunfire.
One is in critical condition and the other is in stable condition.
Sheriff's officials said two hunting pastures are within about 600 yards of the school.
Authorities planned to search for rifle casings to see if they match the barrel markings on the guns the hunters had in their possession.
