A California man was arrested Friday trying to smuggle liquid methamphetamine into the U.S. from Mexico.

Campbell, Calif., resident Vasa Major, 41, was stopped at the border and directed to a secondary inspection point Friday. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) officers noticed the gas tank of the 1998 Honda Accord appeared to have been modified. A CBP detection dog was deployed and found the presence of the drugs.

Officers dismantled the fuel tank and found nine containers of liquid meth holding a total of 8.5 gallons (66 pounds) of the drug. The liquid meth was valued at $1,027,774.

Major was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations. The drugs and the vehicle were seized.
