LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Disney's new digital wristband is raising concerns regarding the privacy of children.
A congressman from Massachusetts has raised questions about how Disney will use information collected from the computer chips in the so-called "MagicBands."
The bracelets are set to debut at Walt Disney World in Florida this spring. Paying for purchases is among the bands' uses. Disney will be able to use the data to customize future offerings and marketing.
The wristbands will be optional.
Disney released the following statement:
"MyMagic+ is a completely optional program. Disney's privacy policies and practices are fully transparent and guests can choose whether or not to participate in MyMagic+ or not to participate in MyMagic+."
In addition, guests control whether their personal information is used for promotional purposes and no data collected is ever used to market to children. MyMagic+ is designed to make a visit to Walt Disney World more personalized, seamless and customized than ever before."
Disney is the parent company of ABC7.
