Honda Pilots investigated for brake problems

DETROIT (KABC) -- U.S. safety officials are investigating brake problems in the Honda Pilot SUV.

The probe covers nearly 88,000 Pilots from the 2005 model year. Investigators say the brakes can come on without drivers stepping on the pedal.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Honda have received 205 complaints, but there have been no reported crashes or injuries. In one case, a driver reported that a Pilot stopped three times without warning, once on an interstate. After each case, mechanics could not recreate the problem.

Government investigators are working to determine if the problem is serious enough to warrant a recall. A fix has not been discovered yet, but investigators are looking into problems with a computer-controlled system that stops the car as fast as possible in emergency situations.
