Lohan Arrested: Was Chasing Former Assistant's Mom

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

Lindsay Lohan's mug shot was taken after she was arrested on suspicion of DUI and cocaine possession, among other things. Two of the charges are felonies -- she is facing the possibility of significant jail time.

Lohan was arrested early Tuesday morning in Santa Monica, and the circumstances were unusual to say the least. Police say the mother of Lohan's personal assistant called them to say Lohan was chasing her in an SUV.

Police say this bizarre story started around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. Lohan was chasing another car though the streets of Santa Monica. Police say it was the mother of her personal assistant, who had quit just hours earlier.

That chase ended in the parking lot at the Civic Auditorium, and it became a heated argument

"The mother was afraid," said Lt. Alex Padilla of the Santa Monica Police Department. "She wasn't quite sure what was going on so she called the police because she wanted to make sure that everything would be okay."

At the police department, Lohan's alcohol level was between .12 and .13 -- well above the legal limit of .08. Police say they also found a small amount of cocaine.

Lohan was booked on two misdemeanor charges of suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving on a suspended license and two felony charges of possession of cocaine and transportation of a narcotic into a custody facility.

The 21-year-old actress was bailed out of the Santa Monica jail at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday morning. Eyewitness News learned the actress left through an underground tunnel that goes under the street and connects with a parking lot, which is where her attorney picked her up. They did this to avoid dozens of cameras stationed outside of the jail, awaiting the money shot of her walking out.

This is Lohan's second DUI arrest this year. Just this past May, Lohan was arrested for DUI in Beverly Hills after crashing her Mercedes Benz convertible. She spent six weeks in rehab, and emerged wearing an alcohol monitoring ankle bracelet.

Lohan's attorney issued this statement: "Addiction is a terrible and vicious disease. Since Lindsay transitioned to outpatient care, she has been monitored on a SCRAM bracelet and tested daily in order to support her sobriety. Throughout this period, I have received timely and accurate reports from the testing companies. Unfortunately, late yesterday I was informed that Lindsay had relapsed. The bracelet has now been removed. She is safe, out of custody and presently receiving medical care."

Despite her troubles, Lohan has continued working. Her new movie, "I Know Who Killed Me" is set for release this Friday.

Lohan turned 21 on July 2.

Lohan apparently had a 'Tonight Show' appearance scheduled for this evening, which she has since cancelled.

There is no word yet on any court dates scheduled for this latest DUI arrest. She is expected back in court on August 24th for her DUI arrest back in May.
