August 13, 2007 (KABC-TV) (KABC) -- They started out as a local rock 'n' roll band back in the 1970s.
Now, after many incarnations as a group, Van Halen is again reinventing itself.
Three of the four original members will be hitting the road. And they'll be joined by the next generation of Van Halen.
After an on-and-off, often tumultuous 30 years, a new version of the band Van Halen has emerged from the rock 'n' roll ashes.
Van Halen will tour with original frontman David Lee Roth for the first time since the flamboyant singer quit more than 20 years ago.
After Roth quit in 1985, he was replaced for the next decade by Sammy Hagar.
For this 2007 version of Van Halen, Roth says not to think of it as a reunion, this is a brand new band.
Van Halen had intended to announce a tour earlier this year. But guitarist Eddie Van Halen entered rehab.
The band did not want to tour until everyone could give 100 percent.
Helping the band continue is its latest addition, Eddie's 16-year-old son Wolfgang.
As for the thought of a 16 year old hitting the road for a full blown rock 'n' roll tour, Wolfgang defers to his mom, actress Valerie Bertinelli.
"Let's just say she'll be watching me very closely," Wolfgang said.
