LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Actor Jim Carrey says his latest role in "A Christmas Carol" was challenging.
In Disney's "A Christmas Carol", director Robert Zemeckis uses state of the art performance motion capture technology to bring the age old story of Scrooge to life.
Jim Carrey portrays digital versions of the crabby, Ebenezer Scrooge, plus the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future in a tale he calls timeless.
"It has always been a story that allows us to refocus on the important things," said Carrey.
The joy for Jim came from not just the story, but also from the ways he was challenged with the various roles.
"It's a dream come true for that. It was challenging in every way and you can use everything you got," said Carrey.
Zemeckis said he can't imagine anyone but Carrey taking on this particular interpretation of the role.
"I never thought of anyone there was no second choice," said Zemeckis. "I think he's like the set the bar for Scrooge for all time."
As for Jim, he saw something very different when he first saw the finished character on the big screen.
"When I saw the movie one of the first things I said at the first close-up was, 'my family is going to have a heart attack because that is my father,'" said Carrey. "It is unbelievable what I'm gonna look like when I'm old."
The movie also stars Gary Oldman, Robin Wright, Bob Hoskins and Colin Firth. It's rated PG.
Disney is the parent company of ABC7.
