Kodak Theatre to change name ahead of Oscars?

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Kodak Theatre, where the Academy Awards will be presented this Sunday, will soon be known by a different name. That's because Kodak has filed for bankruptcy protection and has asked to get out of its contract.

As the biggest names in Hollywood make their way down the red carpet on Oscar Sunday, there is one name that will be noticeably absent, the one that's become synonymous with the event itself: Kodak. That's because the Eastman Kodak Company won court approval to remove its name.

The million-dollar question: Come Sunday, what will the theater be called? CIM Group, which owns the 3,300-seat venue, as well as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which puts on the Oscars, are both keeping tight-lipped on theater's new name

Kodak has found it tough to stay competitive in the digital age. It filed for bankruptcy last month when it ran short on cash and wanted to end its contract for naming rights of the glamorous theater as it tried to improve its finances.

But Kodak says it will still have a presence at this year's Oscars show: Seven of the nine films nominated for best picture were shot on Kodak film.
