Justin Bieber cited for speeding in paparazzi chase

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Teen pop sensation Justin Bieber was pulled over and cited for speeding in Studio City on Friday after he claims he was being chased by paparazzi.

L.A. City Councilman Dennis Zine spotted Bieber, who was driving a chrome-plated Fisker Karma, on the South 101 Freeway near Coldwater Canyon around 10:30 a.m. He said Bieber appeared to be going about 100 mph.

"It was like a rocket ship coming by, I'm not exaggerating when I say that," said Zine. "When it passed me, it had to be going close to 100 mph. Every time when there was a little space, it would make a lane change, then there were all these cars following."

After Zine dialed 911, Bieber was pulled off the freeway at Vineland where the California Highway Patrol cited him. The CHP did not indicate how fast Bieber was actually going.

Bieber never got out of the car, but that didn't stop crowds from forming. According to witness Andy Pejoro, people began screaming Bieber's name and ran over to snap pictures.

Zine, a veteran LAPD officer, said Bieber got off too easily.

"If I was still a motor officer, a motor supervisor, I would have arrested him for reckless driving because that was willful and wanton disregard for everyone," he said.

This isn't the first paparazzi problem for the pop prince. On May 27, he got into a physical altercation with a photographer at The Commons in Calabasas. No charges were filed there.

As for Bieber's car, it's a plug in hybrid with sports car pickup that was a $100,000 plus gift from Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun.

"The fact is you have a car that's distinguishable and obviously the paparazzi know, and if you want to drive in that fashion, maybe you could drive in a car that's not as recognizable," said Zine.

Braun told TMZ Zine is "just a councilman looking for a headline."

"I'm a councilman trying to save lives," said Zine in response to Braun's comment. "I'm a councilman who's also a dedicated member of law enforcement, 33 years with the LAPD. I'm currently a reserve officer with the LAPD. All I'm trying to do is protect life and property."

Zine said he would testify against Bieber if he was asked.

Braun told TMZ after Bieber was cited, he left and continued to be followed by the paparazzi. He then called 911 for assistance.
