LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- You can pound the pavement with POUND fitness, heat up those hot hula hips, try Hoopnotica or take flight with Aerial Fitness. These are well-known unconventional workouts, but get ready for two more.
We often take our workouts seriously, but the educators at Equinox decided we should belt out a song while we break out a sweat. Get ready for Karaoke Yoga.
With the popularity of Equinox's Sing and Cycle, Yoga teacher Jennifer Pastiloff knew Karaoke Yoga was a no-brainer.
"It's not about alignment, it's about connecting to your joy," said Pastiloff. "It's longer exhales, it's sweating, dancing."
With a DJ and TV screens for lyrics, the workout is looser than traditional yoga. Pastiloff says there is even has an air guitar pose. Still, the class offers deep breathing, stretching and enlightenment.
Participant Jennifer Touchette says it also bonds the class.
"The sense of camaraderie is amazing," she said.
In Pasadena, Asylum Gym offers different emotions.
"During our workouts, it feels like hell. You don't want to do it, you want to stop," said Edgar Abramyn of Glendale.
It's tough stuff, but Abramyn loves the results he's seen in the last month doing Troika.
"Troika is actually a Russian word for three horses pulling for the same purpose," said gym owner Herman Baptiste.
Baptiste uses three trainers on six clients for a small group training program. You don't get ignored or lost in the shuffle. Clients wear weighted vests ranging from three to sixty pounds, utilizing training techniques, weight stations, and all kinds of fitness toys.
"If you can't afford $80 or even $50, this is a really great alternative," said Baptiste.
The class is $20 or less if you buy a block of 10 for petite effective workouts.
