Wood fires may cause respiratory disease

  

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Wood-burning appliances could be making children ill.

A new study out of the University of Washington found that infants who had more exposure to wood smoke were more likely to be hospitalized for bronchiolitis.

Bronchiolitis is a respiratory infection and according to researchers, is the number one reason why a child ends up in a hospital in the first year of life.

Researchers believe the toxicity of the smoke is contributing to the rise in respiratory issues.
