'Dancing With The Stars' elimination night: Maria Menounos gets the boot in semifinals

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Maria Menounos and partner Derek Hough made it to just one step away from the finals. She and her partner scored a near perfect 59 out of 60 Monday night. But the scores were close among the final four, so when the viewer votes were factored in, Menounos and Hough were factored out.

"I think that we went out winners," Menounos said. "I danced every single dance I could dance in this."

They started with the Cha Cha in week one, earning triple sevens. By week three, they Rumbaed their way to triple nines. And their dramatic Paso Doble in week seven earned them the first perfect score of the season.

"I literally never thought I would make it this far - ever," Menounos said. "So, for me, every week was like a 'Oh, wow. Oh gosh, we did it. We're here another week."

Hough called the elimination bittersweet.

There's still one more week to go and with Menounos and Hough gone, that leaves the actor, the singer and the football star to compete.

Green Bay Packer Donald Driver, singer Katherine Jenkins and telenovela star William Levy will battle it out in next week's finals, which include the popular freestyle routines.

"I don't even know what the freestyle is," Levy said. "All I know is that Cheryl (Burke) had to go to work on it right now, so hopefully she makes it good."

"I really didn't think that we would be here standing talking about being in the finals," Jenkins said, "It's a real shock."

"No pressure at all," Driver added. "I'm always up for the challenge, but I'm just glad I am able to get (partner Peta Murgatroyd) to this point but. She has a dream that she wants to win it all, and if I can make her dream come true, then I've done something special."

Monday's two dances are the freestyle and the judges' picks, with more dancing on Tuesday.
