LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Two-time Academy Award winner Russell Crowe headed back to 19th century France for his role as Javert in "Les Miserables." Crowe says he wasn't really interested in the role at first, but something happened during a meeting he had with director Tom Hooper.
Crowe said he went into the meeting thinking he was going to turn down the job, but he left wanting the role.
"But that's the beginning of the pursuit, because at first they're pursuing you, and then when you kick over and say, 'Yeah, I want the job,' now, you're pursuing the job, and you're lining up with everybody else who is auditioning," Crowe said.
Of course, Crowe got the job and then he got busy making sure he'd be ready when it was actually time to start filming.
"Everybody had the same mixture of adrenaline and fear that drove them, you know, on a daily basis for months," Crowe described. "Before we even turned up, before we were in the same place together, before there was a film camera around, you know, I spent between June and February singing every day no matter where I was."
Crowe said the film was a challenge but also said it was a magnificent experience, adding that he loved being on the set.
"Les Miserables" opened on Christmas Day.
