Andy Dick sees 'Dancing With The Stars' as chance for redemption
LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Comedian Andy Dick is part of the Season 16 cast of "Dancing With The Stars," and he means business.
The once-troubled star is sober and serious, but he's still funny, too.
"I am sans liquor," he said.
Dick is not joking around about giving up alcohol. He knows it's one reason "Dancing With The Stars" came his way and he's appreciating every moment of the experience.
"It's like an opportunity I really don't deserve," Dick said. "If I can just stay away from the liquor and all the other bad things that come with it, then I'm golden."
Dick's professional dance partner, Sharna Burgess, said she thinks it's his time to shine, too.
"I think Andy's finally reached a point where he's done with the sober-not sober, sober-not sober, because that's exhausting," Burgess said.
The dancing is exhausting, too. But it's all coming from a positive place and Dick has had plenty of negatives, including substance abuse, arrests and scandal.
Dick has had success on television before, including the ABC sitcom "Less than Perfect."
He's ready to try again.
"I have not appreciated my career and my life for so long," Dick said. "I took it for granted and I'm having this be my final go at it. I'm treating it like it's my final chance. I'm just going to go for the gusto."
He won't be going it alone.
"He's doing an amazing job," Burgess said. "He's working so, so hard and I really think he is going to shock everybody. He's got rhythm."
