Santa Clarita, August 2, 2006 -- Beverly Peele has been sentenced to three years' probation and 300 of hours of community service for stealing a woman's credit card information and charging thousands of dollars in merchandise.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lloyd Nash on Tuesday also ordered the 31-year-old model to pay nearly $4,000 to the victim and $900 in restitution to American Express, said Deputy District Attorney Annette Peterson.
Peele, who pleaded no contest to an identity theft charge in May, has paid the restitution, defense attorney Brian Oxman said.
Peele, who has been featured in magazine ads and a George Michael music video, was arrested in December.
Prosecutors alleged that she charged furniture, a refrigerator, a washer and dryer and other items for her home on credit cards that were in a wallet she had found in a supermarket.
Peele returned the wallet to the owner but not before apparently taking down the numbers on the charge cards, investigators said. Oxman maintains his client made an innocent mistake.
"This was an error on her part of using the wrong credit card number and she's made everyone whole," Oxman said after the sentencing.
