LOS ANGELES, September 4, 2006 (KABC) -- It's not just Labor Day in Los Angeles. It's also the city's 225th birthday, and Mayor Villaraigosa and others celebrated with a nine-mile walk.
The L.A. mayor, San Gabriel Mayor David Gutierrez and a bevy of city workers walked from the San Gabriel Mission to the L.A. River.
It's the same journey taken by Spanish settlers on September fourth 1781 when they established El Pueblo de La Reina de Los Angeles.
The walk ended with a birthday celebration for L.A. on Olvera Street.
