Homes Out Of Danger From Thousand Oaks Fire

Tuesday, January 23, 2007

A wildfire that temporarily threatened 20 homes in Thousand Oaks is now out.

Ventura County Fire Captain Barry Parker says the 30-acre fire was extinguished by 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Parker says no homes were damaged and there were no injuries.

The blaze broke out Monday in a hilly area off the 101 Freeway near Hampshire Road.

About 200 firefighters battled the flames.

Parker says firefighters were able to set some backfires and keep the fire from getting too close to the homes and they remained guarding buildings overnight.

Helicopters also made unusual nighttime water drops despite the hazard of power lines.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
