Weather Helps Fire Crews on Catalina Island

Sunday, May 13, 2007

Continued cool weather is helping firefighters on California's Santa Catalina Island maintain control of a blaze that had threatened the resort community of Avalon.

The fire has charred more than 4,000 acres and is more than half contained. It's expected to be fully contained by Wednesday.

Officials say one home and six small businesses have been burned, but no one has been seriously injured.
