ALTADENA, June 27, 2007 (KABC-TV) (KABC) -- A 9-year-old boy fights off a man armed with two knives and saves his big sister's life. Police say he helped them track down the suspect who is under arrest.
This is a story of an amazing 9-year-old boy. Not only did he jump on his sister's attacker protecting her and also disposed of the weapon so the attacker couldn't get at it again, he followed the attacker out of the house to see which direction he was heading and then provided an accurate description for police. Then when paramedics arrived he led them to his sister so she could be treated quickly.
"I was under here and then I was really scared and I got up and said, 'What are you doing? What are you doing here?'" said Davit Mursalyan
That is how the terrifying night began for 9-year-old and his older sister. The father of Lilit Mursalyan's 11-month-old son, Demond Williams, snuck into the house, hiding under the bed before going on the attack.
"This is where the blood was and this is where she was sitting. He missed, I'd say three stabs: one here, one here and one big one here," said Davit.
Williams, who had a restraining order against him, convinced him he only wanted to see his baby but when Lilit returned home with the child it became clear Williams had something else on his mind.
"He lifted his shirt like this and inside of his pocket was two kitchen knives," said Davit.
Lilit says Williams attacked her with those knives while she was holding her baby, repeatedly trying to stab her and that's when the brave 9-year-old stepped in.
"I jumped on his back because I didn't want my sister to die and I don't care if I get hurt because I just want her to be safe," said Davit.
It was that move that gave Lilit the opportunity to run outside and get help.
"As soon as I got the chance I ran out and I jumped off the porch and I'm just yelling for help," said Lilit.
Williams ran off shortly after and Davit followed to see which way he went. Authorities say they can't believe a 9-year-old reacted the way he did.
"It's amazing what he did. It was just really incredible considering he's a 9-year-old child. He's actually done more than some of the people, some of the adults that we deal with on a regular basis," said Sgt. Marsha Williams, L.A. County Sheriff's Dept.
His sister can't be more grateful.
"Oh, he's my hero. He's my little savior. I'm thankful he was there. It did scare him a lot. I didn't want him to experience something like that, but I'm so glad that he was there. Because if it wasn't for him I don't think I would have been here today."
Now, 23-year-old Demond Williams is in custody and he is facing a charge of attempted murder.
