VAN NUYS, June 30, 2007 (KABC-TV) (KABC) -- Police are hunting for a rapist who attacked a woman in her Van Nuys home and they could use your help.
Thursday night's attack brings the total number of sexual assaults in Van Nuys to four.
Police have distributed flyers to a lot of the neighborhood community organizations in Van Nuys to let them know what's going on, some of the things they need to look for and how not to become a victim.
With four assaults in three weeks, a sexual predator has zeroed in on Van Nuys.
The latest attack happened in the neighborhoods near Sepulveda and Vanowen.
Police say at about 4:30 Thursday morning a woman woke up while she was being assaulted.
"He walked into a woman's bedroom and while she was sleeping sexually assaulted her. The woman awakened and screamed and that's when the suspect ran from the location," Officer April Harding, of the LAPD, said.
The first attack happened on June 10th in the 7000 block of Sepulveda.
Then on June 20th, two women were attacked within minutes of each other.
The victims were able to give a description of their attacker to police. Residents are fed up being afraid.
"We have to watch out for one another now, so until we can see what's going on and hopefully catch him, soon," Christian, a resident, said.
"I don't walk to the store alone no more because I'm scared that something might happen to me or my son," Jessica, a resident, said.
Police want to remind everyone not to create an opportunity by leaving doors and windows open during the warm summer nights.
