No New Leads in 'Cold-Blooded' Murder on Hwy. 710

Tuesday, July 17, 2007

Detectives say it was cold-blooded killing -- a man shot numerous times while helping his girlfriend change a tire. Now the trail is growing cold and they're asking for the public's help in finding the killer.

Detectives say they have simply hit a wall and run out of leads. They've been working this case for four weeks now and have nothing on the killer.

On Tuesday morning, the family of 25-year-old Michael Miller made an emotional plea to the public for information leading to his apprehension.

Miller was shot to death on the night of June 12 along the 710 freeway at the 3rd Street off ramp. Apparently, he had received a call from his girlfriend who had a flat tire. She called Miller and asked him for help. When he arrived and tried to change the tire, the suspect pulled up. The suspect asked if Miller needed help with the changing of the tire. Miller said no, and the suspect for no reason opened fire on Miller mercilessly and kept firing on him until he was disabled lying on the ground.

Miller died at County U.S.C. hospital later that night. His girlfriend was not injured or fired upon.

This is an emotional time for the family. Miller is the father of two little girls, ages 5- and 3-year-old. The family is pleading with the public to come forward with information to help locate the killer.

"This coward will be caught. There's no doubt about it, he will be caught," said Randy Cummiford, the uncle of the victim. "Once again, we ask anybody in the public that even if they think they know something, or if they might think it's insignificant, please just call. Let the detectives decide if it's insignificant or not."

Miller's uncle said his nephew was a great guy, and they have no idea why he was targeted.

The suspect is described as a Latino man in his mid-20's, wearing glasses, mustache, stocky build, 5'9" tall, and 180 pounds. He was last seen driving off in an early-1990's Nissan Maxima, blue in color, with tinted windows and no plates.

There's a $25,000 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. If you have any information, contact the L.A. County Sheriff's Homicide Division at (323) 890-5500.
