SOUTH PASADENA, July 25, 2007 (KABC-TV) (KABC) -- A 76-year-old South Pasadena man was struck and killed by a Southern California Edison vehicle being driven by an employee.
It happened Monday afternoon when 76-year-old Sammy Wong decided to take a walk across Prospect.
A woman from Southern California Edison was checking meters in the neighborhood. Somehow her car hit Wong and he suffered fatal injuries.
Wong's wife, Peggy, was inside babysitting her two grandchildren. She tried to keep her husband inside the apartment.
"I said it was to hot and told him not to go out. He said no and that he wanted to walk," says Peggy Wong.
Mrs.Wong speaks only broken English and does not know the details of her husband's death.
Her husband's body was sprawled in the street in front of an adjacent driveway. Southern California Edison will not identify the employee but said she stayed on the scene.
However a sheriff's homicide expert tells a different story.
"It was determined Wednesday afternoon that a Southern California Edison employee, while driving company vehicle accidentally struck the man and failed to report it. Currently we are conducting an investigation. Apparently the driver did not hit the man on purpose it was an accident. We're going to file the paperwork with district attorney's office an go from there," says Deputy Luis Castro, L.A. County Sheriff's Department.
Again, according to Southern California Edison, their employee stayed on the scene to help. She did not run away but she didn't identify herself and didn't tell investigators she was involved.
