CHATSWORTH, Aug. 3, 2007 (KABC-TV) (KABC) -- Self-proclaimed pedophile Jack McClellan was officially served with a temporary restraining order as he boarded a plane bound for Chicago.
Outraged parents marched into a Chatsworth courtroom Friday morning, urging a judge to clamp down on a man who admits he likes young children.
The only problem: He hasn't committed a crime.
It was a big victory for the attorneys and the parents in Chatsworth. The judge issued an order preventing Jack McClellan from taking photos or coming within ten yards of a child anywhere in the state.
Attorneys Anthony Zinnanti and Richard Patterson, both parents of daughters, went to court in Chatsworth Friday morning. They were joined by several parents from the Santa Clarita area. The attorneys were seeking a temporary restraining order against 45-year-old McClellan. McClellan is a self-proclaimed pedophile.
Jack McClellan: "All I can say is I've done nothing illegal since I've been here in California, the whole state. My conscience is clear and I'm just going to keep on keepin' on what I'm doing and obeying the law."
McClellan has been spotted in Santa Monica and Santa Clarita. Believing he posed a threat, the attorneys had sought an order to keep him from near any areas where children gather in Santa Clarita and taking their photos. A superior court judge expanded the order to cover the entire state of California.
Attorney Anthony Zinnanti: "The judge clobbered Jack McClellan. Jack McClellan is not to be around any minor child in the state of California. He is not to loiter or follow, stalk, threaten, harass, shadow, photograph anything. Jack, stay away from the kids or you're going to jail."
Parents are expressing relief.
Parent Lena Smyth: "I think this is proves that when parents and law enforcement can get together we can really make positive change. So we are ecstatic. We couldn't be happier."
Parent: "I feel like a load of bricks has been lifted off of my chest. It's just, you know, it's a wonderful victory and hopefully it continues. And we'll be back if we have to come back."
If McClellan violates the temporary order, he will go to jail.
