Local Events in Honor of 6th Anniversary of 9/11

Here is a list of public ceremonies being held Tuesday in honor of the sixth anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks.

SEPTEMBER 11TH CEREMONIES:

Carson
The city of Carson will hold a musical tribute featuring local choirs leading the community in the singing of hymns and patriotic songs to commemorate the occasion. Elected officials and representatives from the Sheriff's and Fire departments also will participate in the annual tribute at 6 p.m. For more information, call (310) 952-1740.

Glendale
Glendale Fire Department personnel will conduct brief 9/11 remembrance ceremonies at 6:58 a.m. in front of each fire station in the city, including headquarters at Station 21, 421 Oak St.

Glendora
The city of Glendora will be holding a candle-lighting at 6 p.m. in front of City Hall.

Lomita
The Lomita City Council will hold a ceremony at 7 p.m. on the City Hall lawn, 24300 Narbonne Ave. For more information call (310) 326-0140.

Los Angeles
The Simon Wiesenthal Center will hold a briefing on security threats and a memorial candle-lighting at 4 p.m. at the Museum of Tolerance, 1399 S. Roxbury Drive, Los Angeles.

Manhattan Beach
The city of Manhattan Beach will dedicate its 9/11 Memorial, which features two columns from the World Trade Center site. The dedication will take place at 15th Street and Valley Drive in front of the Fire Department facility. The ceremony will begin at 9:58 a.m. Members of the community are requested to arrive 10-15 minutes early.

Monterey Park
Monterey Park will have a moment of silence and placement of a wreath by police and fire department personnel at 9 a.m. in front of City Hall, 320 W. Newmark Ave.

Ontario
A celebration of public safety personnel will be at 10 a.m. at the Ontario Police Station, 2500 S. Archibald Ave., Ontario. For more information call (909) 395-2001.

Pasadena
The Pasadena Fire Department will be holding a flag-raising ceremony at 7 a.m. at Fire Station 32, 2424 E. Villa St., with taps played by a Pasadena Fire captain.

Redondo Beach
The Rev. Maitreya Bhagavan Friend invites the community to a candlelight vigil for "all of America's fighting men and women who have given their lives for America and freedom and for those who have been wounded in battle." The vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Empty Chair Memorial, 124 Sapphire St., Redondo Beach. Attendees are asked to bring a candle to honor those who have sacrificed their lives for freedom. Rosemead
The city of Rosemead will be honoring the Los Angeles County Fire Department at its 7 p.m. City Council meeting, at 8838 E. Valley Blvd.

San Bernardino
The Villas at San Bernardino will host the No Greater Love ceremony in remembrance of those who died. The 10 a.m. ceremony is at 2985 N. G St., San Bernardino. Special guests include Mayor Patrick Morris and Walt Bieszczad, a firefighter who helped search for survivors at Ground Zero. Lunch will be served. For more information call (909) 883-7703.

San Jacinto
A candlelight vigil and memorial dedication is set for 6:30 p.m. at Hofmann Park, 625 S. Pico Ave. The event will feature guest speakers, patriotic music and refreshments. For more information call (951) 654-7337.

Simi Valley
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library will hold its second annual Simi Valley Freedom Walk, 5 p.m. For information, call (805) 522-2977 or go to www.militaryconnection.com and click on Simi Valley Freedom Walk.

Temecula
A remembrance and concert will be held at 6 p.m. at the Temecula Duck Pond. A rededication of the "Singing in the Rain" monument will take place, and the public may write messages in a journal and light candles to be floated on the pond. For more information call (951) 694-6480.

Torrance
A remembrance ceremony honoring local service members killed overseas will be held at 6 p.m. at the Robert Haag Recital Room at El Camino College, 16007 Crenshaw Blvd., near Torrance. Light refreshments will be served. In addition to the above ceremonies, residents are asked to honor the 9/11 victims as well as service members killed or injured overseas by helping to build strong communities through public service.
