Alleged Gang-Related Shooting Leaves 3-Week-Old Baby Dead

Tuesday, September 18, 2007

The city of Los Angeles is offering a $75,000 reward for information in a weekend shooting that left a three-week-old baby dead from a stray bullet.

Police say they are looking for three suspects in the shooting.

Luis Angel Garcia was sitting in a stroller next to his mother when he was shot around 9:30 p.m. Saturday on a crowded street in the city's MacArthur Park area. The El Monte infant died about a half-hour later at a hospital. He was just 23 days old.

Police say another victim, identified as 37-year-old Francisco Clemente, also was hit by a stray bullet. He's hospitalized in critical condition.

Investigators believe as many as 100 people witnessed the shooting.
