UCLA Sends Medical Books to Iraq

Thursday, September 20, 2007

UCLA got a visit from the U.S. Army.

The soldiers were there to collect thousands of medical books.

The books were donated by the UCLA Medical Alumni Association.

It's all part of the Books Without Borders project.

The books are heading for Iraq.

"We are grateful to the U.S. Army for agreeing to fly the boxes overseas where they will distributed to our colleagues at Iraqi hospitals, reference libraries, and medical, nursing and vocational programs," Dr. Patrice Healey, of the UCLA Medical Alumni Association, said.

"This is a great day for the Iraqi medical community and the citizens that will ultimately reap the benefits for these books and the education that will go on," Lt. Col. Christopher Talcott, of the UCLA ROTC, said.

The UCLA donation includes more than 2,000 medical books and journals.
