ORANGE COUNTY (KABC) -- Investigators hope to learn whether a certain type of utility cable may be to blame for sparking some of the October wildfires.
State regulators are examining whether "guy wires", the anchors that keep power poles straight, may be the weak link. Three San Diego gas and electric power lines failed during last October's hurricane-force windstorm, starting massive fires.
Another agency is investigating the cause of the canyon fire in Malibu, which firefighters say spread from a leaning power pole that fell in the wind.
