Officers responded to find a man dead. Police believe the shootout continued down Whitsett Avenue.
A few minutes later, a second body was found at Coldwater Avenue and Vanowen Street.
Both shootings happened as stunned witnesses watched.
"They were shooting into that continental grill store, and I guess they shot someone in there because like two or three more guys came out and were like shooting at the guy in the car," said witness Haloti Latu.
A police dog helped catch a suspect who tried to run away.
Officers are still searching for more suspects and weapons. Anyone with information should call LAPD North Hollywood at (818) 623-4016.
