LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (KABC) -- Cars were temporarily diverted from Terminal 3 at LAX following an unusual arrest. A man surrendered himself to officers, claiming he was a terrorist and had a bomb in his bag.
"He said, 'I'm a terrorist, I've got a bomb in the bag and I'm going to blow it up now,"' police spokesman Jim Holcomb told The Associated Press. Holcomb described the man as between 25 and 30 years old.
Officers arrested the man and briefly shut down traffic on the upper and lower levels of the terminal. The man was taken to the police station for questioning.
LAX Airport police identified the suspect as Scott Juhun Lee from Irvine, born in 1981. Lee was arrested for making a false bomb threat. He was booked by LAPD Major Crimes Division. Bail was set at $20,000.
The bomb squad squirted water into a black backpack in front of the Tom Bradley Terminal. No explosives were found inside.
Flights at several terminals were grounded, while upper and lower roadways near Terminal 3 were temporarily closed. There were no terminal evacuations.
Normal operations have resumed.
