Missing woman may have had stalker

BALDWIN PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- Police in Baldwin Park are asking for the public's help in the search for a woman who's been missing for 10 days. Family members say she'd been telling them about a possible stalker for the past year and a half.

Elizabeth Duer has lived in a Baldwin Park apartment for about a year, but 10 days ago, she vanished without a trace.

Twenty-seven-year-old Elizabeth Duer was last seen a week ago Sunday. Patsy Sanchez saw her just hours before she disappeared.

"She was happy. She was making a cake. She had all kinds of joy in her," said neighbor Patty Sanchez.

Duer's family says she moved here about a year ago and went to school at CalPoly Pomona. They now fear the worst.

"It's not like her at all," said Duer's cousin, Brent Weaver. "There's no conceivable reason the family can think of why she wouldn't have contacted somebody. She's not the type of person that just goes away and doesn't tell anyone."

Duer's landlord says on the day she disappeared she received a mysterious phone call.

"About 10 o'clock I received a phone call from police, from Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, saying 'We have Elizabeth,'" said Duer's landlord, Betty Tsao.

But was it the Sheriff's Department? The person on the line asked some unusual questions

"And he asked, 'Is Elizabeth at home' And then he said, 'She'll be home soon,'" said Brent Weaver. "The problem is, L.A. County Sheriff has no record of the call. We don't know who this guy was."

Duer's car is also gone, and the family believes she might have had a stalker

"We don't know who this guy was. We're not sure she even knew him," said Weaver. "She does have a boyfriend who thinks it's possible. Elizabeth may have gone out that Sunday night to try and confront this guy, and ask him who he was. She may have had contact with him through the Internet."
