DNA identifies body found in 1993

Saturday, November 07, 2009

DNA samples have identified the body of an Ontario teenager, more than 15 years after she disappeared.

Doungboupa "Dawn" Sihakhom ran away from home in February of 1993. San Bernardino County Coroner's officials said the girl's family suspected foul play, but police would not accept a missing person report at the time.

A female body was found the same month in Sierra Madre, but remained unidentified. But two-weeks ago DNA samples from Sihakom's family were matched to the body.

Officials said the only reason the girl was identified was because of a sheriff's volunteer who picked up the case after being contacted by the girl's family.

Investigators are now trying to figure out how Sihakhom died.
