Hemet man arrested in storage unit thefts

HEMET, Calif. (KABC) -- A Hemet man has been arrested as part of the investigation into burglaries at a local storage unit.

Police say since April, 31 units have been burglarized at Extra Space Storage in the 800 block of West Esplanade Avenue in Hemet. The total property loss was approximately $10,000, with an added $11,000 in damage to the business.

Over the weekend, 38-year-old Jose Mendez Jr. was taken into custody. He faces charges of burglary, possession of stolen property and vandalism.
