San Bernardino grandfather killed at apartment complex

Monday, September 03, 2012

A 40-year-old grandfather was shot to death in the parking lot of an apartment complex in San Bernardino. This shooting is one of six homicides in the last eleven days in the city.

"Personally I'm still in shock. It hasn't really hit me. I don't know what to think. I don't know how to feel," said Waldemar Alvira, the brother of the victim, Miguel Alvira.

For Waldemar Alvira, his sister Gloryann Alvira and Miguel Alvira's children, words cannot describe their pain.

"It's sad that you can't go visit a friend without worrying who's going to be behind you, who's going to be holding a gun and thinking that you're part of whatever's going on in that neighborhood," said Gloryann Alvira.

Miguel Alvira was shot and killed in an apartment complex in the 2900 block of North Mountain Avenue around 1 a.m. on Saturday. His daughter was one of the last people to see him alive.

"He left my house around 12:50 and he was pronounced dead around 1:20. So, it's kind of messing with me right now," said Miguel Alvira's daughter, Amirah Alvira.

Police have no information on the suspect, and there is no known motive. His family thinks he was an innocent victim of gang violence.

"My brother was a very hard-working man and anybody, please, with any information, just please come forward and help bring this man to justice. Don't let your family be the next," said Gloryann Alvira.

If you have information for detectives, call the San Bernardino Police Department at (909) 384-5762.
