Woman found dead near front door in Highland

HIGHLAND, Calif. (KABC) -- The body of a 26-year-old woman was found near a doorstep in Highland on Saturday.

Police discovered the body around 3:30 a.m. after responding to a call about an unresponsive woman at a residence in the 6900 block of Elm Avenue.

Upon arrival, deputies found the body lying near the front door of the home. The victim was identified as Victoria West.

Deputies found the circumstances surrounding West's death to be suspicious and detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Homicide Detail were called in. West's death was later deemed a homicide.

Detectives contacted West's boyfriend, 26-year-old James Jackson. He was questioned about the incident and was later booked at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino for an outstanding felony warrant.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine West's exact cause of death.
