CHERRY VALLEY, RIVERSIDE COUNTY (KABC) -- A Riverside County man and his two adult sons are behind bars after authorities found a stockpile of explosives underneath their Cherry Valley home.
Bruce Borynack and sons Zackariah and Zephaniah were all arrested Sunday morning.
Sheriff's officials suspected the elder Borynack and his son Zackariah were in possession of explosive devices. The two were seen driving away from their home at about 9:20 a.m. Deputies conducted a traffic stop, and both men were detained. Deputies suspected there may be explosives in the car, so a hazardous materials team was called in and the car was cleared using a robotic device.
After the car was secured, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's SWAT team served a search warrant on the family's home in the 1000 block of Nancy Avenue. A brief standoff ensued when a man and a woman refused to come out of the house. They eventually exited the residence and were detained without incident. The adult female was later released.
Investigators say they found an underground bunker packed with explosive devices.
The cache was so big that U.S. Air Force hazardous materials experts and the FBI were called in.
The Borynacks are each being held on $500,000 bail. They're charged with 14 counts of reckless or malicious possession of destructive device or explosives.
