Apparent suicide ends in house explosion

An apparent suicide attempt ends in a house explosion in the Covina area on Monday.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to 16760 E. Brookport Street after reports of an explosion at about 10:45 a.m.

Authorities said a male turned on the gas on the house for an hour to commit suicide.

Firefighters knocked the fire out quickly, and the victim was transported to a local hospital with first and second-degree burns.
