Council to recommend $1M for rape kits

Los Angeles lawmakers appear ready to tackle the LAPD's backlog of rape kits.

The City Council's public safety committee meets on Monday and will reportedly recommend spending $1 million to analyze rape kits.

A group called Human Rights Watch accused the LAPD last month of failing to test more than 7,000 DNA rape kits.

LAPD Chief William Bratton said he was committed to working through the kits and the challenge was finding the funding.
