2 killed in Santa Monica plane crash

Two people were killed Wednesday when a small plane crashed at Santa Monica Airport and burst into flames.

The single-engine airplane crashed during take-off at the west end of the airport runway, according to Ian Gregor, Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson. The crash occurred at 5:05 p.m.

  • The cause of the crash was under investigation.

    Santa Monica Airport has been closed.

    The plane is a Marchetti F260 model, said Gregor. It is registered as an experimental craft. The plane is licensed to a Malibu-based company.
