20 water-saving streets sweepers in L.B.

  

LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Long Beach unveiled 20 new street sweepers, continuing to be a leader among California cities trying to save water.

The new street sweepers all use natural gas for power, and they all use recyclable water to clean the street.

They cost about $240,000 each, but they will save about 13 million gallons of drinkable water every year.

Since 2007, Long Beach has seen its water consumption drop by about 18 percent.
