Encino water main break cuts service

ENCINO, Calif. (KABC) -- Another day and another water main break in Los Angeles, this time in Encino.

The Department of Water and Power said the six inch pipe burst just after 2:30 Saturday morning on Wish Avenue. Officials said about 70 customers are now without service.

The break sent water gushing into the air landing on houses and cars.

"It was pummeling the car across the street and then eventually it was shooting up so far it was affecting the house," said Craig Markson, who lives on the street. "The firefighters went up there and put tarps that could protect the house."

Crews were able shut off the geyser but not before it left a muddy mess and a sinkhole in the street.

DWP officials said they are not sure how long affected customers will be without water.
