Sheriff's deputy, suspect shot in Lawndale

  

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy was shot in the shoulder, and a shooting suspect was also hit by gunfire Tuesday night in Lawndale.

The Sheriff's Dept. received the report at about 10:30 p.m. The deputy and the suspect apparently exchanged gunfire.

The shooting occurred near the intersection of 168th Street and Prairie Avenue in Lawndale, near Alondra Park Golf Course, east of El Camino Community College.

It was not clear what precipitated the shooting.

The deputy was transported to a hospital. The conditions of the deputy and the suspect were not released, but the Sheriff's Dept. said the deputy was expected to survive.
