Wednesday, November 04, 2009

A woman was struck and killed by a Metrolink train in Claremont Wednesday night.

An unidentified 79-year-old woman attempted to cross the railroad tracks at the Indian Hill crossing in Claremont about 3:10 p.m. She suffered fatal injuries when the train struck her and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Metrolink train #314 was destined for San Bernardino.

Train service in the area was suspended indefinitely.

There are two tracks at the Indian Hill crossing, approximately 100 yards west of the Claremont Metrolink station. One of the tracks was opened at 4:25 p.m., but trains were not operating.

Commuters can expect 45-minute to hour-long delays in train service between Los Angeles and San Bernardino.

No one was injured on board the train involved in the incident. Passengers were transferred to a different train.
