Teen killed in murder-suicide

LINCOLN HEIGHTS, Calif. (KABC) -- Police identified a 16-year-old girl as the victim in a murder-suicide in Lincoln Heights.

Investigators said Maria Valderrama was shot to death in the 2400 block of Daly Street at about 8:35 p.m. Friday.

Police identified the shooter as her boyfriend, 20-year-old Juan Carlos Mendez. An officer said Mendez fled the scene but stopped about a block away and shot himself in the torso.

Police found him wounded in an alley and took him to County-USC medical center where he later died.

Police said the couple had been dating for about two years.
