USC color found in UCLA fountains on campus

WESTWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- Three fountains on the UCLA campus were hit by pranksters - the water was colored a rather suspicious red.

The targeted fountains included the inverted fountain near the school's Knudsen Hall, the Shapiro Fountain in front of Royce Hall and the fountain at UCLA's Sculpture Garden.

No one from USC has admitted responsibility, but cardinal red and gold are the colors of USC, and the two cross-town rivals are set to battle Saturday night.

Monday, it was USC 1 and UCLA 0, but most likely some UCLA students are plotting a playback after what happened on their campus Monday.

Three fountains at University of California-Los Angeles resembled a peppermint candy swirled with red, dyed the school color University of Southern California, days before the big game.

"One of our students will get them back," said UCLA football player David Carter. "Our students are smarter than theirs anyways. So we will find a better way to get them back."

"I think the Trojans should be worried about retaliation of some blue and gold because Bruins don't stand for that," said UCLA student Veronica West.

UCLA campus police say there are no other reports of vandalism, at least not yet. But based on the long history of pranks between the two schools, the Trojan Knights are watching Tommy Trojan closely.

"For those who don't want those UCLA punks to get near it and to ruin it: We will get you Bruins, we will get you!" said USC student Anders Ho.

Tommy Trojan is wrapped up and under guard 24/7.

"Someone from the Trojan Knights is at Tommy Trojan at all times of the day and they even sleep there at night, no matter how cold it is," said USC student Nicole Rottjakob.

USC students want to make sure they don't get a taste of their own medicine. Last year somebody dumped cardinal and gold paint on UCLA's bruin mascot on campus. UCLA football players say the pregame pranks may even the score but the one they really care about will happen on Saturday night.

"We play for everything, you know, bragging rights for Los Angeles, just to put UCLA back on the map," said UCLA football player Johnathan Franklin.

The two teams will meet up on Saturday for their 80th time. This series dates back to 1929 and UCLA has lost the last three games to USC. So UCLA is definitely hoping that they can be victorious on Saturday and we will just have to see what happens between now and then on this campus and in Westwood.
