Vigil held for Giants fan beaten after Dodger's home opener

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A vigil was held for the Giants fan who was beaten after the season opener at Dodger Stadium.

Bryan Stow remains in a coma at County USC Medical Center. A lot of people have expressed outrage and concern after the vicious attack. Members of the community, religious leaders and Dodgers fans came together to pray for Stow and his recovery.

Meantime, former Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton has been hired by the Dodgers to assess the security at Dodger Stadium and work on improvements.

Doctors say the 42-year-old paramedic and father of two from Santa Cruz suffered a severe skull fracture and may have brain damage. Stow has been hospitalized since last Thursday when he was attacked and severely beaten in the parking lot of Dodger Stadium after the game. Stow and his friends were wearing Giants apparel.

Police said there were dozens of people nearby when the unprovoked attack happened. They've released a composite sketch of two suspects described as between 18 and 25 years old. Both have shaved heads, and one is said to have numerous tattoos on his neck.

Los Angeles County officials said $100,000 in reward money is being offered for information leading to the capture of the suspects.

"We are doing everything we can to find these individuals and bring them to justice," said Mayor Villaraigosa. "We won't rest until such time as they are brought to justice."

In regard to the hiring of former Chief Bratton, Dodgers owner Frank McCourt issued a statement saying,

"There is no one better to lead a top-to-bottom review of our current practices and make recommendations to be implemented now and into the future."

William Bratton is currently the chairman of a company called Kroll which handles global security. He said he will begin consulting with the Dodgers right away, and that he and his team will take a comprehensive look at security procedures and then make recommendations.
