LA medical marijuana ordinance goes to court

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles' city ordinance regulating the number of medical marijuana dispensaries goes to court Friday.

Attorneys will defend the ordinance, which a judge ruled unconstitutional in December. The city has revised five parts of the ordinance to address the judge's concerns.

Meantime, two new collectives are suing over the lottery system to select the 100 collectives that would be allowed to remain open. They also want to be allowed to stay at their current locations.

The filing is one of at least six in recent weeks trying to stop the city's medical marijuana plan. The city wants to reduce the number of pot dispensaries from more than 1,000 to a level closer to 100, about the amount before the city placed a 2007 moratorium on new pot dispensaries.
