Annual gun buyback program kicks off in LA

The city of Los Angeles kicked off its annual gun buyback program on Friday, with LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa explaining the details.

The gun buyback program offers gift cards to Ralphs or pre-paid Visa cards to people turning in weapons.

No questions are asked.

Those turning in assault weapons get a $200 gift card. Shotguns, handguns and rifles are worth $100 gift cards.

In 2010, the gun buyback program took more than 2,500 firearms off the city's streets.
