AIDS Walk LA draws 30K supporters, raises $3M

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- Nearly 30,000 people converged on the city of West Hollywood for the 27th annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles on Sunday.

Participants walked 10 kilometers through West Hollywood and the Fairfax district. The walk began at 10 a.m. at West Hollywood Park.

The $3,005,014 raised Sunday increases the total raised to fight the disease in Los Angeles County since the walk's inception to more than $72 million, according to Craig E. Thompson, AIDS Project Los Angeles' executive director.

Several celebrities were in attendance, including current "Dancing With The Stars" contestant Carson Kressley and former contestant Cloris Leachman.

The money raised from the event helps treat as many as 10,000 AIDS patients locally.
